The Savvy Paddler Home Page

Hi. You have reached The Savvy Paddler Home Page. Sorry, we cannot come to the phone right now, but if you'll....Oh, wait, wrong message.....
Hi. You've reached The Savvy Paddler Home Page. Here you will find pictures and links about my family and interests. As you can see, sea kayaking is one of them. If you're interested in learning to paddle sea kayak, click here for a report on a recent course or here for a flyer for the next coastal course, scheduled for May 28-30, 2011. Other upcoming events are the annual Safety and Rescue Course in June and the Strokes Class in August.

Here's a link to a totally disorganized paddling page of miscellaneous pictures and items of interest to boaters. Also, a link to some pictures of a waterfall at Lake Jocassee that's one of my favorites. Here are some pics from a GORP trip to Jocassee.

In 2002, we spent some time above the Arctic Circle paddling the Lofoten Islands in Norway. Here is a small selection of the pictures we took.

Recently we attended the East coast Canoe and Kayak Festival in Charleston, SC. My literate sister-in-law wrote about the event here.

If you are interested in paddling white water canoe or kayak, check out the Georgia Canoeing Association. I will be teaching whitewater kayak and/or canoe in June and August.

I also have a page on the UGA server talking about the UGA Test Scoring and Reporting Services, with some information about to the courses I teach at UGA.

If you find yourself in coastal South Carolina near Charleston, my friends at Coastal Expeditions can provide you with touring kayak instruction, guide services, and pre-packaged or custom tours. Their guides are top-notch, and most of them are both certified instructors and trained naturalists. If you just want to explore a protected barrier island without paddling, they also run the Bull Island Ferry out to the Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge. Be sure to tell Chris I sent you by.  Coastal Expeditions
Or, if you're near Savannah, Sea Kayak Georgia on Tybee Island would be the folks to talk to. Marsha and her staff do instruction, tours, and retail. Their stock of high-end touring boats is one of the best in the Southeast. Sea Kayak Georgia
Looking for a boat that's really a step above ordinary? Check out Allen Sinqfield's cedar strip baidarkas and canoes at Sinquefield Custom Boatworks. Remember, not everybody gets to paddle a stripper.
Last but not least, I've posted some pictures of the family for your (and their) enjoyment.

Send me some email or leave a message in the guestbook.
